Morel mushrooms found in Chicago

At 11:00 AM today, my friend and I started looking for morel mushrooms in forest preserves along the Des Plaines river in the Chicago area. We quickly started finding half-free morels (peckerheads), and got excited. Hours starting going by, and the complete lack of true morels was starting to become depressing. By 3pm, and still no true morels, I had to make a decision on whether we should pack up and leave, in order to pick up my wife from work by 5pm…. OR call her and tell her to take the bus. We decided to stay, and look around a bit longer. Within 10 minutes we saw a morel, and not just one, but bunches all around an elm tree. Enjoy the pictures.

    Basterd……lol….. great info though….been looking the last few weeks also. spent a day out by the Des Plaines and another down by Palos . Glad to hear somebody is finding them.
